The Pelham Bit:

The Pelham bit combines the action of a snaffle and a curb bit. Like a curb bit, the pelham has a leverage effect, making it a sharp-acting bit. This makes it an ideal bit for strong horses or for horses with mouths that are too small for a double bridle. The bit can be used with one or two reins. The curb chain creates a gag effect; the tighter the curb chain, the stronger the action of the bit. The pelham bit is not suitable for inexperienced riders.
